Warriorettes defeat Warren

Posted

Roy Sewell Gymnasium was packed on Nov. 29 as the White County Warriorettes welcomed in the Lady Pioneers from Warren County. Although games against Warren County are no longer district games, they remain a rival and you always want to win against the teams that are right down the road from you. Both teams played hard from the opening tipoff.

The Warriorettes came out strong in the first quarter. Celeste Reed made a nice drive to the basket for 2. Karley Gentry hit a deep 3. Lexi Golden hit a 3 of her own. Ava Jones came in and played hard on both ends of the court.  Jones blocked shots, got rebounds and attacked the basket on the offensive end of the court. K.K. McDonald got in on the shooting from the outside as well.  The Warriorettes led 18-7 after the first quarter.

Celeste Reed started the second quarter with a nice steal and drive to the basket. Jones continued her great play, scoring 7 points in the quarter.  Karley Gentry hit another deep 3 before halftime and the Warriorettes lead 32-19 at the halfway point.

The Lady Pioneers tried to make a move during the third quarter of the game.  The Warriorettes made a concerted effort to get the ball to the post players, Reed and Powers.  The score going into the final quarter was 40-28.

Ava Jones continued to be a defensive force in the fourth quarter.  She controlled the paint by blocking shots and grabbing rebounds.  Jones ended up with eight blocks on the night. After Warren County tried to fight back with a small run, Celeste Reed made a key basket to get the score to 52-41.  The Warriorettes had great ball movement at the end of the game.  Reed took over with strong inside play.  The Warriorettes pulled away for a 59-46 win. The leading scorers for the Warriorettes were Celeste Reed with 22 points and Ava Jones with 11.
