Warriors, Warriorettes suffer first losses of season

Posted

The White County High School basketball teams traveled to Cookeville to face the Cavaliers and Lady Cavaliers, on Dec. 2. Michael Dodgen, coach for the girls, and Eric Mitchell, coach for the boys, knew they would be in for a challenge against good Cookeville teams. In a rivalry game, home court is extremely valuable.  The Warriors and Warriorettes would need to play great games to come away with victories.

The Warriorettes got off to a slow start and found themselves in an early hole against the Lady Cavaliers. They would fight hard but could never quite claw their way back into the game.  They faced a double-digit deficit for most of the game.  The Warriorettes were able to get the lead to under 10, with less than a couple of minutes to go in the game.  The Lady Cavaliers were near perfect from the line and would hold on take the victory 63-48.  Celeste Reed had 24 points on the night to lead the Warriorettes.  Nia Powers finished with 14 points. With the loss, the Warriorettes move to 5-1 on the season.

The Warrior game against the Cavaliers looked a lot like the girls’ game.  The Cavaliers took the early lead and never looked back.  The team from Cookeville played hard, smart, team basketball the entire game.  Shots were not falling for the Warriors. The Cavaliers seemed to get to every loose ball.  The Warriors took the loss on the chin as they fell 53-38.

The White County Warriors and Warriorettes will welcome the Cavaliers and Lady Cavaliers to Roy Sewell Gymnasium, on Jan. 6.
