WCHS FFA hosts District Land Evaluation Competition

Posted

On Aug. 30, 2022, White County FFA hosted a District Land Evaluation Competition for the Highland Rim and Upper Cumberland districts.  The event was held on Kenneth Whiteaker’s farm, in the Cherry Creek community.

Each district evaluated and judged four different land plots for soil texture, drainage capability, and land use.  Eighteen district teams of four members each, plus alternates, attended the competition.  There were a total of 106 FFA members from across the Upper Cumberland that participated in the event.  In the Highland Rim district, Van Buren County took home first place. In the Upper Cumberland district, Livingston Academy received the first-place honors for their efforts.

The event was planned and directed by the work from White County FFA and their members.  In addition to White County FFA, there were four scientists from the United States Department of Agriculture who evaluated the pits for the judges’ card and assisted in running the contest.

Thank you to Caleb Gulley, Preston Evans, and Melissa Oliver for all your help.   White County FFA would like to thank Mr. Kenneth Whiteaker for the use of his farm and equipment used during the competition and planning.  Lunch for all the participants and guests was provided by Pizza Hut and White County FFA.   Many students and advisors were very pleased with the event and stated the contest was very competitive, and pits were more like that of a state contest.

White County FFA would like to thank everyone who helped organize, manage, and competed in the event.
