WCHS Warriorette softball showed up and showed out

The 2022 White County High School softball season came to an end last Friday night in unfortunately the very same circumstance that it ended in 2021, just one game shy from the team making its first-ever trip to the 3A State finals for the first time in school history. 

Even though this team didn’t accomplish a state tourney birth over the last couple of years, they proved over and over they were good enough to hold their own against, and beat, the very best teams in the state. 

There were more “mosts” and “first-evers” that this team did accomplish, though, for the second year in a row and will forever be remembered.

To mention a few:

(1)  Most wins ever in a season in school history (29)

(2)  Best winning percentage ever in school history (70 percent)

(3)  Most district wins ever in school history (14)

(4)  Fewest losses ever in a season in school history (9)

(5)  First-ever district champs and undefeated district tourney champs in school history

(6)  2nd straight season to finish top 10 in the state, best any White County team has ever finished in school history.

(7)  First team in school history ever to win back-to-back district titles and make it to the sectional finals.

(8)  Most shutouts ever in a season in school history (17)

(9)  Fewest home losses ever in a season in school history (2)

(10)  Highest overall state ranking ever in school history

(11)  Only team ever to compete in two different districts and win both 

These are but a few and no doubt there are even more “firsts” and “mosts” that occurred.

“This team should be remembered as the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) in White County High School softball until another team rises up, stakes their claim, and makes their case,” Mike Abell said. “This was the best team that White County has ever fielded, and we couldn’t be more proud of what they have accomplished. They will be the one team in history that all future White County high school softball teams should be compared to and strive to accomplish what they have.

“Congratulations 2022 Warriorettes, you have made your mark in school history over the past two years, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for the program.

“Last year, this team opened a lot of eyes around the region with their success, and this year they were even better and were showed the respect they deserve that White County High School softball has proven its the real deal and a force to be reckoned with.  To the 2022 seniors that have graduated, you helped build and make this program the best it has ever been and should know you’ve left your legacy for all others to look up to.”
