WCHS Warriorettes take home the win against Meigs County

The White County High School basketball teams had their first official games of the season on Nov. 15.  The Warriors and Warriorettes welcomed the Meigs County Tigers and Lady Tigers into Roy Sewell Gymnasium.   The fans were ready to cheer the home teams on to victory.

The Warriorettes and Lady Tigers took the court first.  The Warriorettes got out to an early lead behind strong post play by Celeste Reed and Nia Powers.  They dominated the boards and were almost unstoppable when fed the ball beneath the basket.  The strong inside then fed the outside offense as the defense collapsed in leaving the White County shooters open for 3-point shots.  Lexie Golden, Karley Gentry, and Nia Powers all hit threes in the first quarter.  The Lady Tigers found themselves in a deep hole as the Warriorettes led 25-7 after one quarter.

Celeste Reed continued her dominance inside, and Ava Jones was a defensive force in the second quarter.  The offense kept clicking, and the lead for the Warriorettes grew to 41-21 at halftime.

The third quarter saw the Warriorettes play with intensity.  Even as coach Dodgen went to his bench, every player came in and played hard despite the score.  The White County girls play with an intensity that is exhibited with defensive pressure and hustle to get to every loose ball.  Reed had back-to-back strong inside moves for buckets.  KB Frasier hit a deep 3 toward the end of the quarter.  The score after three quarters was 65-30 in favor of the ladies from Sparta.

Dodgen emptied his bench for most of the fourth quarter, getting  his freshmen and sophomores valuable playing experience.  The young Warriorettes only added 6 points to the score in the fourth, but they only gave up 6 points as they came in and played with the defensive intensity that is expected out of White County Warriorettes.

The Warriorettes were led in scoring by Nia Powers with 17.  Celeste Reed added 14 hard-earned points. Golden had 9 points and Gentry had 8. Seven other Warriorettes got on the score board for the night.
