WCHS Warriorettes win against Stone Memorial

The White County Warriorettes traveled to Crossville, on Jan. 3, to take on district foe Stone Memorial.   The Warriorettes were still without star post player Celeste Reed.  The Lady Panthers came into the game with a losing record at (7-10) but had played very tough competition.

White County got off to a quick start as Karley Gentry hit two early 3-pointers.  Lexi Golden played hard on the defensive side and came away with two steals in the first quarter. Nia Powers and Ava Jones played strong in the post as usual, and the Warriorettes led 18-9 after one quarter.

The ladies from Sparta continued to play well in the second quarter. KK McDonald hit a deep 3. Lexi Golden got another steal and delivered a nice no-look pass to Powers for a basket.  Freshmen Lakelyn Gratsky had beautiful drive down the lane for a basket.  The Warriorettes would lead by a score of 32-22 at halftime.

The second half saw the Warriorettes get off to a slow start offensively.  They were able to work the ball inside to Powers, and she either would make a bucket or earn a trip to the free-throw line. Coach Michael Dodgen’s freshmen Warriorettes played well in the third quarter.  Lakelyn Gratsky made another nice drive and shot, and Bella Winningham made a pretty three-pointer and earned a trip to the free throw line. The lead grew to 44-29 after three quarters of play.

The Warriorettes continued to dominate the post as most of their points in the final quarter came from Ava Jones who had 6 in the period, and Nia Powers who also had 6.  Lexi Golden would also score in the fourth.  The final from Crossville was 58-44 in favor of the Warriorettes.

Nia Powers would lead all scorers with 22 points.  Ava Jones would add 10 points. Lexi Golden would score 7 points along with her three steals.  Karley Gentry would score 6 points.
