WCMS Warriorettes head into district tourney as #1 seed

Coach Austin Allen expressed pride in his White County Middle School softball team for their great play in the final three games of the regular season.  The WCMS Warriorettes lost one of those three games but played well and showed a determination that will serve them well moving forward.  The Warriorettes were busy as they played three games in four days.

On April 10, the Warriorettes welcomed a very good Livingston Academy team to the campus of White County Middle School.  The ladies from Sparta got the bats rolling.  Eight different batters got a hit and everyone in the lineup reached base.  Unfortunately, the visitors’ bats were hot too, and the Warriorettes found themselves down 12-8 going into the bottom of the final inning. The Warriorettes refused to quit and worked hard to tie the game but could not push across the winning run.  The game would go into extra innings.  Going into the bottom of the seventh, the Warriorettes would find themselves down by two runs again. They were able to score one but not two and fell 14-13.  Several of the Warriorettes had good nights at the plate.  Annabelle Burrier had three singles on the night, and Anna McCulley had four singles.  Addison Norvell had a double, and Kami Clark had a triple. Clark would score three times on the night.

On April 11, the Warriorettes would play the Algood Lady Redskins on eighth grade night. The eighth graders who were recognized were Miah Jo Swindell, Kaylee Sanders, Lakelyn Rice, Dayla Cavanah, Raleigh Cloyd, and Miya League.  Annabelle Burrier pitched well, recording eight strikeouts in five innings.  The Warriorettes would scatter eight hits over the five innings and would win a close ballgame by the score of 4-3.

The final game of the regular season would see the Warriorettes travel to Algood on April 13.  The Sparta girls would jump out to an 8-3 lead against the Lady Redskins.  The Algood girls would score five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.   Pitcher LillieMae Love was able to show mental toughness as she got three outs with the bases loaded knowing a walk or hit would win the game for Algood. The game would go into extra innings.  The Warriorettes were able to put three runs on the board, and the defense was able to make those runs stand up. Miah Jo Swindell would get an inside the park homerun, and Anna McCulley missed sending one out of the park by just inches. The win solidified the Warriorettes as the number one team in the district headed into tournament play, which starts on April 24.
