The White County Middle School basketball teams headed up Highway 111 to take on the Prescott Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs, on Nov. 28.l The teams came away with three victories for the night.

The first teams on the court were the junior varsity Warriorettes and Lady Bulldogs.  Scoring was at a premium as the two teams struggled to get the ball into the basket.  The Warriorettes made a concerted effort to get the ball into Lainie Naaktgeboren who had a height advantage over the Lady Bulldogs.  Naaktgeboren was able to take the ball inside and earn trips to the free throw line. The Lady Bulldogs led 6-3 after the first quarter.  Baskets by Maddie Austin, Peyton Burchett, and Sarah Kate Peck, together with stronger team defense, gave the Warriorettes the halftime lead at 10-7. The third quarter saw the Lady Bulldogs employ a full-court press. They were able to tighten the game despite a basket by Saydee Carpenter. After three quarters, the Warriorette lead was 16-13.  Keira Morrison got on the board in the fourth quarter, and the Warriorettes held on for the victory 18-13.

The junior varsity Warriors took the court next.  WCMS football player Andrew Joliff started the game off with several nice drives to the basket.  Jack also had an early basket.  The young Warriors led 8-3 after the first quarter.  Joliff led the team in scoring in the second.  The score at the half was 16-11.  Both defenses performed better in the third quarter. The Warriors were held to 4 points,  but the Bulldogs only scored 1.  The score headed into the final quarter was 20-12.  Jack Walker hit a big three in the fourth quarter to extend the lead.  The final score of the game was 26-19 in favor of the Warriors.  Jollif led the Warriors in scoring with 10 points. Jack Walker and Cole Gentry both scored 5.  Lucas Philips had 3 points, and Max Warner scored 2 points.

Marsha Jackson’s WCMS Warriorettes took the court next for varsity action.  It is always a tough game when the Lady Bulldogs and Warriorettes meet.  The defensive pressure was intense from both teams.  The Warriorettes struggled to make shots in the first half.  The ladies from Sparta could only muster 7 points against the Lady Bulldogs in the first half.  The Prescott ladies led by 12 at halftime.  The Warriorettes never stopped fighting and tried to make a move during the third quarter.  Every time it seemed that the Warriorettes would draw a little closer, the Lady Bulldogs would go on a mini run. Both teams pressed hard in the fourth quarter. Prescott used the hot outside shooting by Gillies to pull away to a 41-31 victory.  Ashlyn Selby led the Warriorettes in scoring with 10 points. Cassidy Reed followed closely behind with 9.  Teagan Rittenberry added 5 points.  Kaylee Sanders had 4, and Miah Swindell and Rhaleigh Cloyd both got on the board with 2.

The final game of the night was between Mark Sims’ varsity WCMS Warriors and the Bulldogs. The Warriors came out hotter than a firecracker and jumped all over the Bulldogs. Tucker Pinion was hitting shots from everywhere. Cole Sims drove through defenders and made his way to the basket with ease. JoJo got an early bucket and the Warriors led 16-1 after one quarter of play. The second quarter saw Jack Carpenter hit a 3-pointer.  Tucker Pinion stayed red hot scoring 9 more points in the second quarter, giving him 19 points before halftime.  The score at halftime was 28-13 in favor of the Warriors.  The third quarter was Kaden Seibers’ time to shine as he scored 8 points in a short period of time. The Warriors increased their lead to 39-18 after three. Coach Sims emptied his bench, and the Warriors cruised to a 45-25 victory.  Pinion led all scorers with 22 points.
