(US National Weather Service Nashville Tennessee, 12:50 a.m., Sept. 27): The center of Tropical Cyclone Helene is currently swirling over southern Georgia as it continues along a northward trajectory. Rain has nearly spread across the entirety of Middle Tennessee. Crossville has already measured 1.60" of rainfall, Nashville is at 0.75" and Clarksville is at 0.43". Obviously, these amounts will continue to climb as rainfall persists throughout the day and tonight and into the weekend. We still expect most of Middle Tennessee to receive between 2 and 5 inches of rain during this event (including what has already fallen), so a Flood Watch remains in effect for all of Middle Tennessee until Saturday morning. Similarly, we expect winds to increase to 10 to 20 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Therefore, a Wind Advisory is also in place for all of Middle Tennessee until Saturday morning, as well. The good news is that the risk of severe storms, including tornadoes, is very low. There may be an occasional rumble of thunder or two, but this is going to be primarily a rain and wind event and nothing more. Anyway, we will leave you with the latest 7-day forecast graphic so you'll know what to expect once this tropical weather system moves out of our area. See less
