In a recent study completed by SmartAsset, a New York financial technology company, White County ranked amount the top places in Tennessee where residents are receiving the most value for the money they pay in property taxes.

White County received an overall value index of 82.13, ranking it as 10th in the state as places where property tax dollars are being spent most effectively.

“We are proud that White County is in the top ten Best Over All Value places to live in Tennessee - this is a great honor,” White County Executive Denny Wayne Robinson said. “I have to say that this is not something that happens overnight, and I am proud of the county leadership White County has had in the past that laid the foundation for us to build on. I am also proud of the current county commission as they continue to make the hard-conservative decisions that make White County prosper.”

The study, which spanned the entire United States, sought to find where people were getting the most value for their property tax dollars. Factors that were examined included property taxes paid, school rankings, and the change in property values over a five-year period.

To calculate per capita property tax collected for each county, SmartAsset advisors used the number of households, median home value, and average property tax rate. White County’s property tax rate was assessed as 0.52 percent.

The quality of schools was measured by analyzing the math and reading proficiencies scores for every school district in the country. Scores were weighted to account for the differences in numbers of students in each school. White County schools were scored a 5.00, out of a possible 10.

Changes in property tax value over a five-year period were calculated with places where property values rose at high rates, indicating counties in which consumers were motivated to buy homes, providing a greater positive return on investment for homeowners. White County’s Home Value Growth was assessed at 12.55 percent.

The three indicators were then assessed and used to calculate a property tax index, and SmartAsset stated the counties with the highest scores were those whose property tax dollars are being stretched the farthest. White County’s score of 82.13 indicates that residents are getting a lot of value for the taxes they are paying.

“I am honored to be a part of this grand community,” Robinson said and indicated that he, and the county commissioners, will continue to find ways to improve the services residents receive as they strive to keep White County among the state’s leaders in value and growth going forward.
