White County early voting is off to a big start

White County early voting for the Nov. 3, 2020 election is off to a promising start, with daily totals thus far showing an average of 72 voters per hour casting their ballots.

According to Dorcas Marcum, White County administrator of elections, the totals to-date are: Oct. 14 – 531; Oct. 15 – 550; Oct. 16 – 587; and Oct. 17 – 265.  

A statistical analysis of the three previous presidential elections for White County lists the following in total votes cast.

  • Nov. 4, 2018: 4,968 – early voters; 241 – absentee by mail
  • Nov. 6, 2012: 4,851 – early voters; 273 – absentee by mail
  • Nov. 8, 2016: 5,926 – early voters; 255 – absentee by mail

In addition, Tennessee broke the first-day early voting record. Through Oct. 14, a record-breaking 273,325 people cast their ballots by voting early or absentee by-mail. This is a 91 percent increase from the first day of early voting, in 2016, and a 120 percent increase over 2012.

While visiting the polls, Tennesseans are encouraged to wear a face covering and maintain a six-foot distance from poll officials and other voters.Early voting for the Nov. 3, 2020, election began Oct. 14 and continues through Oct. 29. Early voting for White County takes place at the election commission office, in the courthouse.  The dates and hours are listed below.

  • Monday, Wednesday, and Friday: 8 a.m.-4 p.m.
  • Tuesday and Thursday: 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
  • Saturday: 9 a.m.-noon
