A White County man has been arrested for burglary, as well as three other charges, after several items were found in his possession that reportedly belonged to another individual.

Jonathan Ray Young, 36, of Sparta, is being held on a $50,000 bond at White County Jail after warrants were issued for burglary, simple possession schedule II, possession of drug paraphernalia, and theft over $1,000.

According to an arrest warrant, on Oct. 26, 2020, at approximately 11:05 a.m., Deputy Robert Thompson, of White County Sheriff’s Office, was dispatched to a residence on Blue Springs Road about a possible break-in that was in progress.

Upon Thompson’s arrival at the scene, a neighbor advised that a white Ford truck had just left the residence and went toward Sugar Camp Road. Thompson reportedly spotted a white Ford truck matching the description at Peacock Gas Station, on Bockman Way.

According to the arrest warrant, Thompson made contact with truck and the occupants. The bed of the truck was reportedly full of antiques. Sgt. Lanny Wheeler and other deputies then arrived on the scene and also made contact with the driver and the passenger, Jonathan Ray Young.

Thompson reportedly asked the driver about the antiques to which the driver reportedly responded that the property came from his home. Wheeler then asked Young the same question, and Young’s answer was reportedly different from that of the driver.

At that time, the two individuals were asked to step out of the vehicle. Thompson asked for permission to perform a pat-down search of the driver to which the driver reportedly consented. A crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine was reportedly found in the driver’s right front pocket. The driver was detained.

Young’s mother arrived at the scene and identified the contents in the back of the truck as belonging to a specific woman with whom she was acquainted.

While doing an inventory of the vehicle, a camouflage jacket in the passenger seat was found, with a cigarette packet containing a small baggie of a crystal-like substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine. Young reportedly admitted that the jacket belonged to him.

Young’s court date was Oct. 27, 2020.
