Warrior golf team defeats both Cumberland and Stone

Senior Tyson Welch led by example, on Thursday, when the Sparta Warrior golf team traveled up the mountain to take on both high schools in Cumberland County.
Welch had all phases of his game working as he led all scores with a season low 69. Not far behind was Jarrett Glass and Jeremiah Gardenhire who both scored a 71. With the top four scores counting, Tanner Bumbalough came in with a 77 to help lead the Warriors to victory over the Panthers and the Jets. The totals for the combined scores were counted, and Sparta took the win. The Warriors’ score was a solid 288. The Cumberland County Jets came in second place, with a combined score of 299. The Stone Memorial Panthers took third place with a score of 349.
On the ladies’ side of the match, Morgan Quick came out strong and finished with a solid low score of the day at 77. Addie Selby for the Warriors shot a 97. The combined scores for the Warriors was a 174. Cumberland County came in second in the ladies’ division as well with a score total of 205.
Coach Brandon Sims commented on the win.
“It was a great day today,” said Sims. “Morgan Quick had a great round for the ladies. Tyson shot his first under par total in a match. It was a great day.”
