Willie Lee Geer

Willie Lee “Bill” Geer, of the Derossett community, passed away peacefully, on Feb. 23, 2013, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Geer was born Sept. 12, 1930, in the Derossett community of White County, to Beecher and Maggie Lee Jordan Geer.
He was raised in Kentucky and returned to White County in 1958.
Mr. Geer served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and was a lifelong member of the Derossett Church of Christ. By all accounts, he was a man who spoke his mind, when needed. He entertained his family and friends with stories of his boyhood in the coal camps of Kentucky.
When unemployed, he had the drive and ability to create a job for himself. He was involved in several business ventures, most of them dealing with the public, including grocery store owner, dozer operator, service station owner and most recently and notably as owner/operator, along with his wife, of their beekeeping/honey business and Rainbow Bluff Blueberry Farm. He was an avid bowler for 50-plus years, winning numerous trophies and awards, including the Cumberland County Bowling Association’s Hall of Fame.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Geer was preceded in death by his stepfather, Joe Holloway; three brothers, Aaron Geer, Beecher Geer, Gerald Geer; stepbrother, Tommy Holloway; and grandson, Roy Lee Allen.
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Lorraine Otte Geer; son, William Joseph “Billy” Geer and wife Carol; daughter, Debra Allen; grandchildren, Jason and Misty Allen, Joseph Geer, Chip and Teresa Hall, Kendra and James Saunders, Jerri and Randy Rodgers; great-grandchildren, Kyler Allen, Will Geer, Tyler and Austin Pinegar, Brittney, Breanna and Trey Hal, Cory Bruch, Seth, Ariel and Caleb Alley; brother, Bob Geer, of Ohio; stepsister, Ruth Jones, of Signal Mountain; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date with burial to follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
