Lacy Yslas finished fifth in the state in the discus throw with a toss of 113 feet one inch.

Two of White County’s athletes made their state track and field appearances on Thursday at MTSU.
Lacy Yslas, despite having only learned how to throw the discus approximately 14 months ago, finished her senior season off with a bang.  Less than six hours from when the graduation ceremonies were to begin at Warrior Stadium, Yslas was on the podium at MTSU’s track stadium accepting her fifth place medal.  Yslas set a new personal and school record with a throw of 113 feet one inch.
The 16-person meet was divided into two heats of eight to begin.  Yslas won the first heat with the 113’1″ throw and that turned out to be long enough for a fifth place finish overall in the competition.
Bales had the unfortunate task of competing against a very strong field of 800-meter runners.  Bales finished seventh in his heat with a time of 2:00.17, which was a personal record.  The lowest qualifying time for the finals was 1:57.85.  The top qualifying time was 1:55.13.
Look for more details on the state meet in Monday’s edition.
