Richard “Bud” Bussell, 80, a lifelong resident of Baxter, went Home peacefully to be with the Lord, on April 22, 2024, in Cookeville.

He was born on Feb. 13, 1944, in Baxter to Hilmon and Notie Dilldine Bussell.

Bud attended Twin Oak Elementary and Baxter Seminary/Upperman High School where he formed many lifelong friendships. After school, he courageously served his country in the U.S. Army and the National Guard, before returning to his roots to operate heavy machinery - a vocation that matched his strength and skill.

Family was the cornerstone of Bud’s life. He is survived by his loving daughter, Tonya Nash, and her husband, Ross; his cherished grandchildren, Jori Reynolds and her husband, Sean, and Ryan Nash and his wife, Sara; his great-grandson, Gunner Reynolds who brought him immense joy; and his special great-nephew, Sammy Johnson. He also leaves behind his special friends, Kenny and Debbie Randolph, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins who will miss his guidance and humor.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved sister, Wava Dean Davis; and his dearly missed wife, Carrie Geer.

His passion for the Tennessee outdoors was evident to all, as he spent happy hours farming, fishing, and hunting. Bud’s love for westerns, dirt track racing, and storytelling will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

Funeral service was 1 p.m., April 26, 2024, at the Dyer Chapel of

Hooper, Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home, with burial in Pleasant View Cemetery.  Bro. Gary West officiated.

Pallbearers were Ryan Nash, Sean Reynolds, Kenny Randolph, Chris Randolph, Sammy Johnson, Mike Luke, and Scotty Dilldine.

Mr. Bussell’s family gives special thanks to the caring staff of NHC-Cookeville, with extra-special appreciation to Tish Waller.

Dyer Chapel-Hooper Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
