Do you help take care of an adult with chronic conditions? If so, you are not alone. More than 43.5 million family caregivers in America provide a variety of emotional, financial, nursing, social, homemaking, and other services on a daily or an intermittent basis.

Powerful Tools for Caregivers is an educational series designed to provide tools you need to take care of yourself. Taking good care of yourself allows you to be better prepared to take good care of your loved one. As a participant you will learn how to: reduce stress, improve self-confidence, better communicate your feelings, balance your life, increase ability to make tough decisions, and locate helpful resources.

Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability (TCAD) is sponsoring Powerful Tools for Caregivers Music Enhanced program through the Upper Cumberland Development District/ Area Agency on Aging and Disability (UCDD/AAAD). We are enhancing this six-week program by offering music as an intervention to those Caregivers caring for a care receiver with dementia. This intervention is called TN M.I.N.D.S. (Music Intervention Navigating Dementia Symptoms). Each care receiver will be provided with personalized music playlists and equipment to listen. Caregivers will receive technical assistance from TN M.I.N.D.S volunteers and instruction on how to use it as an intervention.

Classes consist of six weekly, 90-minute sessions. Two experienced leaders conduct each class. Interactive lessons, discussions, and brainstorming help you take the tools you choose and put them into action for your life.

Sessions are scheduled every Tuesday for six weeks and begin on March 2 and end April 6, 2021. Classes will be held online from noon until 1:30 p.m. There is no cost for the program as long as you attend each meeting. The deadline to register is Feb. 24. For more information, or to register, contact Clare Farless, cfarless@ucdd.org or Sara Martin, smartin@ucdd.org or call 931-432-4111.
