57-year-old Sparta woman dies in Monday crash

A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 4:28 p.m., on May 16, at Old Kentucky Road/Duck Pond Road, has caused the death of one driver.

According to a report by Trooper of Jacob Groce, of Tennessee Highway Patrol, Renee Trusty, 57, of 5422 Gum Springs Mountain Rd., in Sparta, was driving a 2014 Honda Civic and traveling southbound, on Old Kentucky Road.

Trusty’s vehicle reportedly crossed the center line and struck a 2014 Chevy Traverse driven by Gerardo Barboza Arellano, 38, of McMinnville.

According to the report, Trusty was partially ejected when her vehicle rolled after the impact. She was not wearing a seatbelt. The vehicle then came to rest on its side. Arellano’s vehicle also rolled and came to rest on the passenger side. Arellano was not injured.
