Albert Motta, age 80, formerly of Ponte Vedra, Florida, and a resident of Sparta, passed away Dec. 7, 2024 at NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

Albert was born April 6, 1944, in Bronx, New York City.

He was a graduate of the Naval Academy and served in the United States Navy. He was an outstanding athlete and distinguished himself as the heavyweight boxing champion while attending the Naval Academy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mario; sister, Lenora; and daughter, Dawyn.

He is survived by his wife, Suzie Motta, his stepchildren, Dan Bissell and wife Christie, of Haleiwa, Hawaii, Megan Bissell, of Haleiwa, Hawaii; brother-in-law, Bob Gallaher and wife Janell, of Cookeville; brother-in-law, Rhea Gallaher, of New York; one brother, Anthony and wife Sharon; sister-in-law, Carol; several nieces, nephews, and family members; as well as many special friends and tennis buddies in Florida.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of NHC Healthcare of Sparta for their care and kindness during Albert’s illness.

No services are planned; however, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
