Albert Rex Hamlin Sr., better known as Rex, 85, of Sparta, passed away Jan. 15, 2024, at his residence. 

Mr. Hamlin was born Oct. 31, 1938, in Nevisdale, Kentucky, to Elmer and Effie Wilson Hamblin.

He was a retired forklift operator for General Motors in the Pontiac engine plant. Those years of dedicated work to new automobiles carried over to a love of cars. While most people love old cars, his passion was for new cars. Mr. Hamlin loved to watch all sports on television, from professional sports to the Little League World Series. His allegiance to his Detroit teams switched over to his Southern teams like the Braves and the Titans when he moved to Sparta. 

Mr. Hamlin was a proud veteran of the United States Army.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald Hamblin.

Surviving family members include his wife of nearly 62 years, Faye Hamlin, of Sparta; four sons, Albert Rex Hamlin Jr. and wife Betty, of Michigan, Gregory Hamlin, of Sparta, Jeffrey Hamlin, of Michigan, Brian Russell Hamlin, of Michigan; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Bobby Vernon Hamlin, of Illinois; sister, Janice Sue Price, of Michigan; brother-in-law, Kyle Price, of Michigan; and sister-in-law, Sharon Thomas Hamblin.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m. EST, Feb. 16, 2024, at East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery, with full military honors by the East Tennessee Honor Guard.
