Arthur Merrill Young, 70, of Sparta, passed away Sept. 26, 2023, at Saint Thomas West Hospital, in Nashville.

Arthur was born Saint Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1953, in Sparta, to James Arthur and Merkley Miller Young.

He was a longtime custodian at White County Courthouse. He loved motorcycles and gardening but most of all spending time with his family, whether for holidays or birthdays. He never met a stranger and could always carry on a conversation with anyone - friend or stranger.

Arthur was also a proud veteran of the United States Army National Guard.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Young; brother-in-law, F.L. Young; granddaughter, Avery Rena Cornelius; and three infant sisters.

Survivors include his wife, Teresa Green Young, of Sparta; children, Frankie Young, Amy Young, Phillip Flatt, all of Sparta, J.B. (Catherine) Young, of Michigan; stepchildren, Kenneth (Michael) Young, Regina (J.R.) Cole, Trinity Cornelius, all of Sparta, Shaun (Tia) Young, Thristin Young, Miles Neff, all of Cookeville; brothers, Steve (Kathy) Young, of Sparta, Joel Young, of Byrdstown; sisters, Betty Young, Hattie (Jackie) McGee, Alice Young, Frances (Roger) Young, all of Sparta; sisters-in-law,

Sonya (Darrell) Mabe, Phyllis (Jason) Hollcomb, Bridgett Brock; grandchildren, Paisley Kay Cornelius, Erica Young, Nathaniel Young, Dayton McConnell; step-grandchildren, Dustin (Jessica) Baker, Dalton Baker, Cody Baker; step-great-grandchildren, Nalla Baker, Elliana Ritter, Journey Harper, Baby Baker due in October 2023; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was 2 p.m., Sept. 30, 2023, at Hunter Funeral Home. Dewey Young officiated. Burial, with military honors by the Veterans’ Honor Guard, followed in Greenwood Cemetery. Dewey Young officiated.

Michael Conley-Young, Derrick Young, Jasper Young, Miles Neff, J.R. Cole, and Shaun Young served as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers were step-grandchildren

Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
