Barbara Anne Wilson, 77, of West Lafayette, Indiana, passed away May 3, 2023.

Barbara was born Oct. 27, 1945, in Chicago, Illinois, to Harold Kirk and Eugenia “Jeanne” Wilson.

Barbara was a librarian at White County Public Library, in Sparta, a number of years before retiring.  She lived in Sparta for many years before moving to Owensboro, Kentucky, and then finally to West Lafayette, Indiana, to be closer to her granddaughter and son.

Barbara was a loving person.  She was always ready to help others and to give advice.  She had so many stories to tell that would leave you wanting more.  She loved to travel, whether to a specific destination or just get in the car and drive and drive and drive. Back before she became ill, it was not unusual for her to get in the car one morning and end up in Mississippi, eastern Tennessee, or even Indiana.  She was always up for an adventure!  She loved to knit, crochet, cook, and read.  She had a virtual library of her own.  Barbara was also a foodie.  She could cook, and she could tell you the best places to eat.

Barbara was always upbeat.  She had many health issues, but, for the most part, she was happy and always had something funny to share.  She loved to play word games and spent many hours playing Boggle with her sister and her cousin.  Barbara was quite fond of her son, Mark, and always looked forward to seeing him and spending time running all over town with him when he would come to visit.  She was especially proud of her granddaughter, Alyssa, and her career goal of becoming a veterinary technician.  She was looking forward to Alyssa’s upcoming graduation from the Purdue Vet Tech program.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her brother, James Harold Wilson; her grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.

She is survived with loving memories by her son, Mark Richter; her granddaughter, Alyssa Connell; her sister, Jennifer Danhauer; a dear cousin, Janice Sutherland; niece, Kellye Halliman; several cousins; and her dear friends, Kemp and Carol Morgan, Pat Hinton, Val Gropp, Mabel Mott, Brigette Labno, and Elizabeth McDonald.

A Catholic Rosary Service was 9 a.m., May 9, 2023, at Hunter Funeral Home, with a Prayer Service at 10 a.m. Burial followed in Highland Cemetery.

Memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
