Mrs. Betty Elizabeth Short Hutchings, age 85, of Sparta, passed away Tuesday, June 9, 2026, at NHC of Sparta. She was born on March 25, 1941, in Sparta to the late Ernest and Jennie Lee Goff Short. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold “Hut” Hutchings, and a sister, Peggy Sue Richards.
Mrs. Betty was a seamstress and enjoyed her flower gardens and going to the beach. She was a member of First Community Church. She served as an organist and pianist in the Bon Air Community Churches. She will always be remembered for her infectious laugh that could light up a room and bring a smile to everyone around her. Cake and Chocolate held a special place in her heart.
She is survived by her daughters: Patty (Dean) Day and Lori Livesay & the late James Livesay.
Granddaughter: Kayla (Chuck) Mitchell.
Great-Grandsons: Cade and Colt Mitchell.
Niece and Nephew: Mary Beth (Mike) Laxson and Jason (Carolyn) Richards.
Funeral Service will be held Saturday, June 13, 2026, at 1 pm in the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home with burial in the Old Bon Air Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday from 5 pm till 8 pm and on Saturday from 9 am until service time. Bro. John Wilson and Richard Goff will officiate the service.
Serving as Pallbearers: Keith Short, Bruce Sapp, Jason Richards, Steve Sullivan, Randall Price, Scott Hill, and Chuck Mitchell.
