Carol Joy Katolik Mayfield Johnson, 83, of Sparta, passed Aug. 10, 2024, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Carol was born Sept. 30, 1940, in St. Louis, Missouri, to John William and Mildred Twelbeck Katolik.
She was a former garment factory worker and a proud homemaker. She was an active member of Hampton’s Crossroads Baptist Church. Carol loved sewing and crocheting when she was able and taking care of her four-legged companion, Luxy. Her greatest love was being Granny to her grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Mayfield, and her husband, Blueford Mayfield.
Survivors include her two children, Duane (Kelly) Mayfield and Caron (James) McCrary; grandchildren, Angela, Carrol “Sissy,” Johnathan, Samantha, Candy, Vallena, Peggy, Mary, Eric, Molly, Tyler Shane, Cassie, Austin James; several great-grandchildren; sister, Judy (Rip) Kirby; and brother, John (Debbie) Beeman.
Funeral service was 11 a.m., Aug. 14, 2024, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Graveyard Ridge Cemetery, in the Mooneyham community. Maston Jackson officiated.
Johnathan Pittman, James McCrary, Eric Mayfield, James Mayfield, Austin Kirby, and Tyler Mayfield served as pallbearers.
Honorary pallbearer was Lucas Rush.
Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
