Charles “Chuck” Raymond Biggs, 80, of Sparta, passed away Oct. 24, 2023.
He graduated from Oakland City High School, in 1960.
He was an United States Air Force veteran, retiring Captain (Mustang), in 1983. He completed his Bachelor’s Degree from University of Evansville, in 1972, and his Master’s Degree from Michigan State, in 1979. He was most proud of serving his country with assignments in Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Indiana, Michigan, as well as Libya, Guam, Turkey, and who knows “the other top secret places!”
After retiring from the Air Force, he became an entrepreneur and leader in the private sector. Chuck was part of a security company and part of a team that designed and installed the security systems for the 1984 Olympics, in Los Angeles, then he started a landscaping business, in Charlotte, North Carolina.
After moving back from Indiana, he was the owner and operator of the Yellow Rose Ranch and Horse Stables, in Pike County, and also served as District 8 Representative for the NBHA. He was proud of his individual accomplishments at NBHA events. During this same time, he taught at Oakland City University where he developed and led the Criminal Justice program.
After the passing of his wife, Linda (46 years), he moved to the next phase: motorcycles, recreational vehicles, boating, real estate, and a new love, Debbie Goines, and eventually moving to Sparta for the past eight years.
Chuck was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Amie Fern Biggs; Haskell Sims Jr.; and his first wife, Linda.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife, Debbie Goines Biggs; daughter, Kelly (Greg) Yarbrough; son, Scott (Emily) Biggs; brothers, Joe (Martha) Biggs, Steve K. Sims; sisters, Deann Hunt, Debbie (Rick) Miller, Mary Gates; and five grandchildren, Corey (Katie) Yarbrough, Luke Yarbrough, Izzy Biggs, Charlie Biggs, and Lila Biggs.
