Charles Edward Wood, 75, of Walling, passed away peacefully, on 28, 2025, surrounded by his family, at Erlanger Medical Center, in Chattanooga.
He was born Dec. 24, 1949, in Woodbury, to James and Verna Wood. He was married to his wife, Connie Bryant Wood, for 50 years, on June 29.
He graduated from White County High School, in 1968. He went to barber college, in Nashville, and barbered for many years in White County. He was a Seabee in the United States Navy. He worked for 29 years for Carrier, in Morrison. He was a tobacco farmer, raised pigs, and cattle, and loved working in his vegetable garden. He was a Christian man and a member of Spring Hill The Baptist Church. He loved to travel, loved social gatherings and going to Central View Market every morning to meet with his friends. He loved his special cat, Ms. Quigley.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Connie Wood, of Walling; twin daughters, Jamie Wood, of Sparta, Amy Smith (Chris), of Walling, granddaughter, Lily Jordan, of Sparta; and three sisters, Edna Daniels (Hugh), of Sparta, Rebecca Wilson (Everett), of Walling, and Rita O’Conner (Eddie), of Walling.
Funeral service was Feb. 1, 2025, at Spring Hill The Baptist Church, with burial in Spring Hill Cemetery. Bro Frank Randolph officiated.
Pallbearers were Sam Marcum, Lee Norman, David Hunter, Richard Gallagher, John Cloney, and Marion Knowles.
Honorary pallbearers were Steve Simmons, Brad Daniels, Garrett Daniels, Brent Farley, Alton Marcum, and James Dodson.
Thurman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
