Don Oliver Lowery, 80, of Sparta, formerly of Cleveland, Tennessee, where he was affectionately known as Ollie, passed away unexpectedly, on June 23, 2025, at Life Care Center of Sparta.
Don was born Feb 19, 1945, in Repton, Alabama, to Carl Dayton and Ruby Lee Knowles Lowery.
Don was an owner of D & J Bus Service from 1984-2019, a career that took him all over the United States and introduced him to thousands of people along the way. He started his bus driving career shortly after a 20-year career in the U.S. Navy. He enjoyed his years of retirement off the highway but on water taking several cruises.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 46 years, Judy Lynn Lowery, who died in September 2011, and his 10-year-old brother, Dale Kennith Lowery.
Survivors include his wife of 11 years, Brenda D. Lowery, of Sparta; stepson, Dewayne Hutchings and wife Tammy, of Sparta; two brothers, Weldon Lowery and wife Ruby of Repton, Alabama, Willie "Bo" Lowery, of San Jose, California; sister-in-law, Barbara Rogers, of Cleveland, Tennessee; Doris Nalls, of Repton, Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for friends in Sparta will be 4-8 p.m., June 27, at Hunter Funeral Home. Funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. EST, June 28, 2025, at Companion Funeral Home, in Cleveland, Tennessee. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends after 11 a.m., June 28, at Companion Funeral Home.
