Eldon Benningfield of Campbellsville, Kentucky, son of Sammie T. Benningfield and Rinnie L. Short Benningfield, was born May 2, 1939, in Taylor County, Kentucky. He died at 8:25 P.M., Dec. 15, 2025, in Campbellsville, at the age of 86.
He professed faith in Christ and was a member of Campbellsville Baptist Church.
Eldon served his country honorably in the United States Army National Guard.
He was a retired traveling salesman.
Eldon loved the outdoors. He spent many hours hunting, fishing and searching for Morel mushrooms - “Dry Land Fish." He had an uncanny sense of finding the precious few places where they still grew, much to the enjoyment of his family and friends. He was an avid fan of University of Kentucky athletics, mainly basketball, and was always quick with a joke.
He united in marriage to Judy Sapp, on June 15, 1958.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one daughter: Marsha Benningfield; two brothers and six sisters: Ralph Benningfield, Glenn Benningfield, Madlyn Parrott, Ruby Morris, Dewell Richerson, Majeal Hutchins, Jenny Underwood, and Juanita Newton.
Besides his wife, Judy Benningfield, of Campbellsville, he is survived by two sons: Ron Benningfield and wife Laura, of Campbellsville, Sam Benningfield and wife Nancy, of Sparta, Tennessee; one son-in-law: Jim Haston, of Smithville, Tennessee; five grandchildren: Dustin Benningfield, of Nashville, Leah Murphy and husband Bo, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Jillian Benningfield, of Louisville, Kentucky, Chloe Benningfield, of Lexington, Kentucky, Beisil Castro and wife Tania, of Sparta, Tennessee; six great-grandchildren: Sadie Benningfield, Emmie Benningfield, Maggie Benningfield, Nora Murphy, Callahan Murphy, Tomas Castro; one sister: Shirley Coffey, of Campbellsville; and several nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m., Dec. 19, 2025, at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home, in Campbellsville, Kentucky. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Dec. 20, 2025, at Parrott & Ramsey Funeral Home. Dr. Dwayne Norman, the Rev. Doug Benningfield, and Bro. Jeff Newton will officiate.
Burial will take place in Good Hope Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Mark Benningfield, Bill Coffey, Kenny Gordon, Gary Parrott, Russ Newton, and Chuck Underwood. Honorary pallbearers will the members of Robby Speer Sunday School Class.
