Evelyn Sapp Demps, 91, of the Cherry Creek Community, of White County, passed away May 28, 2025, at Life Care Center of Sparta, with her family by her side.

Evelyn was born Oct. 23, 1933, on Bon Air Mountain, in White County, to Homer Floyd and Minnie Elizabeth Mitchell Sapp.

Evelyn graduated from White County High School, in 1951, and worked many years at Sparta Shirt Factory until she met her husband, Morris Demps, at a gospel singing. They married and worked side by side on the family farm while raising two children. She loved gospel music and was a member of the Blue Springs Presbyterian Church for over 55 years. She was a dedicated Christian and served her Lord faithfully. She was an active member of the Cherry Creek community where she lived after she and Morris married. She loved her Cherry Creek friends and neighbors very much.

She was an amazing seamstress and sewed many beautiful things over the years. She loved to crochet, knit, decorate cakes, and do just about any kind of craft. No challenge was too big for her. She won Ms. Senior White County, in 2006, where she demonstrated her many skills. She was a wonderful cook and was known for her delicious relish, cornbread, chocolate pies, and miracle cheese toast for her grandkids.

Evelyn’s legacy was her family. She was so proud of her family and always supported, prayed for, and loved them very much.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morris, who died August 16, 1983; three of her children Barbara Hall, Jackie Reed, Dennis Demps; sisters, Helen Sapp, Josephine Knapp, Norma Jean Goff, Betty Bohannon; and infant brothers, Casto Cummings Sapp and Floyd Mitchell Sapp.

Family members left to cherish her memory include her son, Floyd Demps and wife Stacey; her daughter, April Demps Smith and husband, John; grandchildren, Morris Clay Hall and wife Deanna, Pam Hall Napier (whose husband, Bill, has passed away), Debbie Batson and husband Pat, Dee Reed and wife Donna, Cody Garrett, David Smith and wife Lauren, Colton Demps, Grace Demps, Lindi Smith; sister-in-law, Betty Demps; and numerous great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, many special friends, church family. and neighbors.

Funeral service was 3 p.m., June 1, 2025, at Hunter Funeral Home, with burial in Highland Cemetery. Katie Ory and Jonathan Angel officiated.

Morris Hall, Dee Reed, Wesley Bohannon, Cody Garrett, David Smith, and Colton Demps served as pallbearers.

The Demps family would like to express a special thank you to Jennifer Philippe and the nurses and CNAs of Life Care Center of Sparta.
