The parks and recreation areas of White County have long been cherished by our citizens and youth, serving as popular spots for enjoyment and community gatherings. However, securing adequate funding to meet their needs has always been a challenge. With the recent closure of the ballfields behind the YMCA, the burden on the county’s recreational complex has increased significantly. In response, White County is making a concerted effort to invest more in our Parks & Recreation programs. The plan is to enhance current facilities and expand offerings to provide more options and resources for the community.

One of the most frequent complaints from residents has been the lack of cell phone coverage at the David Culley Recreational Complex, on Highway 70 West. We are excited to announce that White County has received a Broadband Ready grant from Tennessee’s Department of Economic and Community Development to provide Wi-Fi coverage at the complex. Ben Lomand has been awarded the bid and will begin installation soon, with the goal of having the service operational by the start of the baseball season.

The new Wi-Fi coverage will be concentrated at the baseball/softball fields, the football and soccer fields, and a large part of the frisbee golf course. This will be a valuable resource for people using the facility, allowing them to stay connected while watching or participating in events. Best of all, this new service will be free to the public.

The Parks and Rec Committee and I are committed to improving your experience at the Recreational Complex. Ensuring that you can stay connected with friends and family is an important part of that commitment. We look forward to seeing the positive impact these improvements will have on our community.

Thanks, DW
