Genelle “Jan” Hyder, 92, of Sparta, passed away peacefully, on March 1, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones, at her home in Sparta.
She was born Sept. 24, 1932, in Jackson County (Gainesboro), to Maloy C. and Ina Madelyne Spurlock.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Claude Hyder; and brother, Billy Huston Spurlock.
She is survived by her brother, Roy Glen Spurlock; niece, Julie Spurlock Hawkins; nephews, Billy Spurlock Jr., Larry Spurlock; and numerous cousins.
Funeral service was 1 p.m., March 6, 2025, at Sparta First United Methodist Church, with burial in Cookeville City Cemetery. The Rev. Hong officiated.
Thurman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
