George David Johnson, 83, of Sparta, Tennessee, passed away on Friday, May 8, 2026, at his home in Sparta, Tennessee, after a battle with cancer.

He was born on Thursday, October 22, 1942, in Spencer, Tennessee. He was the son of the late Robert Johnson and the late Rachel Kincaid.

In addition to his parents, David is preceded in death by his foster parents, the late Comer and Annie Mae Knowles

He is survived by his wife of 58 years: Joyce Ann Lollar Johnson; his son: Matthew (Kelly) Johnson of Crossville, TN; grandson: Nolan Johnson; granddaughter: Alivia Bradley; brothers: James (Peggy) Johnson of San Marcus, TX, Thomas (JoAnn) Johnson of Sparta, TN, Joseph (Barbara) Johnson of Sparta, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

David began his career at Potter Freight Lines. He went on to work for many years at Service Transport and retired from there. In his past time, he enjoyed and had a love of farming, beekeeping, hunting, and fishing with his family and friends.

The light of his life for the last 3 years was spending time with his grandson, Nolan. His love for the Lord was the foundation of his life, guiding every step he took. He was a faithful member of Laurel Creek Baptist Church.

His absence leaves a void that can never be filled, but his love will continue to surround us. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Funeral service was held at 12:00 PM on Wednesday at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, located at 1786 Smithville Hwy, Sparta, Tennessee 38583. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery, Sparta, TN.

The family received friends from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home.

Officiating the service will be Bro. Roy Terry, and the pallbearers are Jason White, Chase Howell, Tim Johnson, Chad Severt, Stephen Gribble, and Kris Waggoner. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Williams, Don Easterwood, George Elrod, Denny Greenwood, Andy Wyatt, and Dr. Joel Johnson
