Gerald Lee Dodson, 84, of Rock Island, passed away March 9, 2024.
He was born July 17, 1939, in Sparta, and was the son of Lonnie Dodson and Mary Rawlett.
Gerald was a preacher and Sunday School superintendent. He was known to be an extremely hard-working man. Most of all, he walked the walk and talked the talk of the Lord.
In addition to his parents, Gerald was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Dodson Jr.; his brothers, Amuel Dodson, Charles Dodson, E.J. Dodson; and his sister, Shirley Dodson Sapp.
Surviving family include his wife of 61 years, M. Helen Brewer Dodson; daughter, Cindy (Shane) Childers, of Smithville; sisters,
Mary Lawson, of Sparta, Sue Howell, of Sparta; four grandchildren, Josh Childers, Ryan Childers, of Smithville, Brandon Dodson, Austin Dodson of Fargo, North Dakota; and four great-grandchildren, Travis Childers, of Smithville, Xander Dodson, Kason Dodson, and Henlee Dodson, of Fargo North Dakota
The family will have a private graveside service at Frasier’s Cemetery to celebrate the life of Gerald Dodson.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
