Gerald Thomas Swindell, 86, passed away Oct. 4, 2025, at Signature Healthcare of Putnam County.
Gerald was born Sept. 16, 1939, in Doyle, to Harley Gaines and Alberta Mayes Swindell.
Gerald owned Swindell Candy Sales that served stores in the Upper Cumberland for countless years. He enjoyed working so much that he also owned and operated the Kountry Kwik Pic, in addition to his candy route. Gerald was a proud veteran of the National Guard.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gail Rice Swindell, who died July 2, 2017, and his son, Jeffrey Thomas Swindell.
Surviving family members include his daughter, Judy Swindell Verble and husband William, of Cookeville; grandson, Brandon Swindell and wife Kelley; granddaughter, Brandi Baldridge and husband Joe; great-grandchildren, Owen Swindell and Scarlett Baldridge; and daughter-in-law, Kaye Swindell.
Funeral service was 1 p.m., Oct. 9, 2025, at Hunter Funeral Home.
Burial, with full military honors by the Veterans’ Honor Guard, followed in Highland Cemetery. Doug Benningfield officiated.
Hoyt Jones, Brandon Swindell, Adam Stafford, Bo Mullins, Mike Lynch, and Jim Henson served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearer was Don Kirby.
Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
