Glyn Edward Smith, 85, ssed away Sept. 19, 2025, at Saint Thomas Ascension Medical Center, in Murfreesboro, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born July 27, 1940, to Martin Howard “Buddy” Smith and Willie Reed Myers Smith.
In his younger years, he was an avid baseball player, coon hunter and musician. He was the singer and played the guitar with a local band known as Little Texas Playboys who performed at the Grand Ole Opry. After his retirement, he enjoyed fishing and continued to play music at church until his death.
Glyn will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of hearing him tell one of his many stories. His legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of all that knew and love him.
And as he would say, “Think the world of you.”
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sylvia Earles Smith; son, Jeff Smith (Tracey); daughter, Susan Smith; grandsons, Zach (Alejandra), Jake Smith; granddaughter, Anna-Grace Smith; aunt, Ruby Jo Tucker; numerous nieces and nephews; and two beloved pets, Oscar and Keeta, also two cats with whom he had an on-going battle of keeping them off the back porch, which he never won.
Funeral service was 4 p.m., Sept. 21, 2025, at Doyle Church of the Nazarene. Bro. Tracy Curtis officiated, with special speaker Jonathan Savage.
Pallbearers were Zach Smith, Jake Smith, Jimmy Dale Savage, Sam Wilson, Greg Meeks, and Mike Dodso.
Honorary pallbearer was Neyland Mills.
Thurman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
