Helen Frances Smith Jolley, 85, went to be with the Lord, on Oct. 14, 2024, while she was residing NHC Healthcare of Sparta.

She was born Aug. 17, 1939, to Thomas Smith and Lucinda Huff Smith and raised in the Hickory Valley community as a child.

Helen was always taking care of someone other than herself.  She was a nurse in White County for over 40 years, working at the old hospital and at NHC of Sparta before retiring.  She was always taking care and nursing many families in the surrounding areas, especially her husband.  She was an avid reader, and her passion was visiting the library and checking out books. She loved suspense and thrillers. She would read as many as 20 to 30 a week.

Helen was a member of the First Christian Church of Sparta.  She loved her Lord and enjoyed singing during services.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death, in May 2024, by her husband and the love of her life, Thurston Jolley; her son,

Dewey Thomas Wheeler; brothers, Charles Smith, Ernest Thompson, Dewey Thompson; sisters, Mary Alice Madewell, Ann Brown, Eunice Cash; along with her husband’s family, sons Glenn Jolley, Ronnie Jolley, and a grandson, Tyler Jolley.

Survivors include her grandson, Forrest Wheeler and granddaughter Hannah; Thurston’s children, Pat McBride and Danny Jolley and many grandchildren; two special nieces, Janice Savage, Joyce Dodson; and numerous other nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m., Oct. 26, 2024, at Bethlehem Cemetery. R.C. Christian will officiate.

Memorials may be made to White County Public Library in her honor or Bethlehem Cemetery Fund in care of Danny Jolley.
