Herbert Smith, of Sparta, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family.
Herbert was born June 6, 1933, in Sparta, to Lemon C. Smith and Maude Elrod Smith.
Herbert was a proud resident of Sparta where he and his wife, JoAnn, raised their family together.
Mr. Smith served his country in the Korean War as a member of the United States Army.
Herbert always enjoyed fishing and was always happy to throw out a line, but more than anything he loved to make others laugh and was never without a practical joke to lighten any mood.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife of many wonderful years, JoAnn Smith, and a son, Keith Smith.
Left to carry on his legacy and laughter are his children, Jack Smith, Jill McCulley (Bryan), Kay Sims (Mike), Jennifer Campos, all of Sparta; grandchildren, Ryan McCulley, Rachel Whittenburg, Josh Smith, Aubrey Rice, Siera Griffin; and several great-grandchildren.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
