Hugh J. Murphy Jr., a fairly recent transplant from New York via Upper St. Clair, Pennsylvania, to Sparta, Tennessee, has left behind a wife of 57 years and three sons of whom he was very proud. He was very well loved by his family who will miss him greatly. That family includes his wife Bonnie; his three sons, Andrew, Brian, and Hugh; his grandson, Harrison; and his sisters, Joyce and Catherine and all of their families.
As an engineer for Westinghouse, he and Bonnie lived in many different locations, leaving behind good friends in every location. He also leaves many good friends from Scouting - he, along with his sons, spent many happy hours camping and other activities with the friends they made in scouting.
Hugh was a man who outlived his many interests. Some fun things he enjoyed were skiing, diving, and piloting a small plane. He also enjoyed these past dozen years in Tennessee, debating with his wife and sitting on the back porch watching the wildlife walk through the yard and hanging out with his brother-in-law, plotting ways to outsmart the turkeys.
A celebration of his life will be 1:30-4 p.m., Sept. 7, 2025, at Northfield Vineyards, 515 Ray Cemetery Road, Sparta, Tennessee 38583. All good memories welcome.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
