White County Humane Society is pleased to announce they have received a grant in the amount of $12,000 from the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee (CFMT.) Funding for this grant was made possible through the Patricia and Edward J. McGavock Humane Treatment of Animals Fund of the CFMT.
These funds will be used to help cover the cost of spay/neuter surgeries for cats and dogs owned by residents in White and Van Buren counties who wish to have their pets spayed or neutered but can’t afford the cost. The WCHS will also fund surgeries for residents who have taken in a stray cat or dog and are willing to give it a good home, rather than taking it to the shelter or leaving it to fend for itself.
The WCHS Spay/Neuter Assistance Program was established in November 2006. Since that time, they have funded 12,216 spay/neuter surgeries. In 2024, 951 surgeries were funded through this program. This program is managed by a small group of dedicated volunteers, who devote countless hours to accomplishing our mission.
Spay/neuter saves lives by preventing the birth of unwanted/unplanned litters of puppies and kittens. According to S/N Assistance Coordinator, Monica Jicha, “We have a serious pet overpopulation problem in White County. While rescue and adoption programs are commendable and necessary, we simply cannot adopt or rescue our way out of this problem. Prevention is the only long-term solution. Our program is geared toward promoting spay/neuter of pets and making it an affordable option for everyone.”
