James Arlis Whitworth, 70, of Sparta, passed away Sept. 21, 2023, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.
James was born April 5, 1953, in Spencer, to Joe E. Whitworth and Ruth Brock Whitworth.
James was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to spend time with his wife and grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, James was preceded in death by his stepmother, Claudine Neal Whitworth; sister, Laura E. Whitworth; brother, Don Whitworth; and his son, Toby James Whitworth.
Surviving family include his wife, Joene Davis Whitworth, of Sparta; son, Benjamin Tyler (Jessica) Whitworth, of South Carolina; granddaughters, Delilah Whitworth, Emmery Whitworth; brothers, Eddie Whitworth (Cynthia), of Dibrell, Tom Whitworth (Rita), of Sparta; sister, Nickie Cantrell, of Quebeck; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Funeral service was 1 p.m., Sept. 25, 2023, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, with burial in Crain Hill Cemetery. Rudy Oakes officiated.
Pallbearers were Dwain Luna, Tom Whitworth, Eddie Whitworth, Stacey Hensley, Daniel Stantz, and Tommy Whitworth.
Oak Lawn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
