James Carl Buck passed from this world, on Dec. 22, 2023, at his home, in Algood, following a brief illness. He was born Feb. 5, 1935, in Rickman, to Lawrence and Mattie Green Buck.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Buck.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carolyn Thompson Buck; a son, James Carl Buck Jr. (Melissa); a daughter, Joy Buck Gothard; three grandsons, James Christopher Buck, Billy Ray Buck (Victoria), of Sparta, Adam Buck Gothard (Taylor), of Baxter, and a bonus granddaughter, Brittany Gothard Kuykendall, of Strawberry Plains; and 11 great-grandchildren.
James attended Algood Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was a long-time member of Paran Church, in Overton County. He retired from Fleetguard, in 1991, and was a member of the Tennessee Army National Guard. Following retirement, he worked with his son at Thurman Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were his three grandsons, Donnie Buck, Bill Benson, and Rodger Phillips.
Funeral was 2 p.m., Dec. 26, 2023, at Whitson Funeral Home. Pastor Richard Bond officiated.
Memorial donations may be made to Cookeville Rescue Mission, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, and Salem Cemetery.
