James Claude “Buddy” Blaylock Jr., 79, of Sparta, passed away July 9, 2025, at Smith County Health and Rehabilitation, in Carthage.

Buddy was born Sept. 18, 1945, in Jacksonville, Florida, to Claude and Vernell Fish Blaylock.

Buddy served four years in the United States Air Force, after which he worked at Mallory as a Quality Control Supervisor.

Buddy was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who loved the Lord. Buddy was also an avid sports fan who enjoyed attending basketball and football games.

In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Michelle Blaylock Blanton; grandson, Chase Davis; a brother, Clarence L. Blaylock; and two sisters, Linda L. Blaylock and Julia Ann Blaylock Parks.

Surviving family members left to cherish his memory include his wife, Dorothy Marie Parks Blaylock; sons, Jackie Lee Blaylock, Jason Claude Blaylock; grandchildren, Brittany Mott, Stephanie Mott, Tiffany Mott, Chelsey (Jared) Batson, Brianna (Kyle) Rusche, Brandon Blaylock; one sister, Betty Sue Bray; and several great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral service was 2 p.m., July 14, 2025, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home, with burial in Oak Lawn Cemetery. Steve Qualls officiated.

Pallbearers were Jonathan Kirby, Danny Gene Kirby, Roger Simmons, Kyle Rusche, Jared Batson, and Brandon Blaylock.

Oak Lawn Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
