Funeral service for James Edward Cole, 72, of Sparta, will be at 1 p.m. Jan. 14, 2022, at the Dyer Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home, in Cookeville. Pastor Maston Jackson will officiate. Interment will follow at Dobbs Cemetery.

His family will receive friends 5-8 p.m., Jan. 13, and 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Jan 14.

Ed passed away suddenly, on Jan. 10, 2022, at Cookeville Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 27, 1949, in Sparta, to Marion Cole and Ada Mae Sparks Cole.

Ed was a member of Hampton's Crossroads Baptist Church, where he enjoyed serving in different capacities.

He retired from Kern's Bread Company and, after retirement, served in the office of the White County Sheriff's Department.

Ed loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Linda Edwards.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandy Long Cole, whom he married July 9, 1971; son, Eddie (Mandy) Cole, of Sparta; daughter, Sherry (Derrick) Anderson, of Sparta; brother, William (Sharon) Cole, of Cookeville; sisters, Juanita (Steve) Tollison, of Sparta, Lea (Winnell) Hickey, of Baxter; grandchildren, Alyssa Cole, Caleb (Lauren) Anderson, Kaylie (Caleb) Roberts, Keena Anderson; honorary grandson, Josh Simmons; and one great-grandchild to be born soon, Anderson Lane Roberts.

Dyer Chapel of Hooper-Huddleston & Horner Funeral Home, in Cookeville, is in charge of arrangements.
