James Edwin Gwynn, affectionately known as "Knobby," age 84, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 29, 2021, at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital, in Nashville.
Knobby was born Oct. 21, 1936, to Martha James Officer Gwynn and Roy Gwynn.
He graduated from Austin High School, in Knoxville. He joined the United States Air Force, in 1954, and retired, in 1974. Knobby attended and received degrees from Florida Key Community College, the University of West Florida, and Tennessee Technological University. He was also a member of Post 99 of the American Legion, in Sparta.
Hunter Funeral Home has been entrusted with Knobby's cremation. Memorial service will be 10 a.m., Jan. 17, 2022, at Lee Cemetery. Military honors will be presented by the Veterans' Honor Guard. There will be no formal visitation prior to the service.
