James Lewis Jones, 76, of Sparta, passed away Jan. 2, 2024, at Ascension Saint Thomas Highlands Hospital, in Sparta, surround by his family.
James was born Dec. 31, 1947, in Peterborough, New Hampshire, to Francis and Alice Jones.
James was a devoted truck driver for more than 40 years and spent most of his career hauling fuel for Performance Transportation Inc., in Fitchburg, Massachusetts. When he wasn’t driving his semi, you could find James enjoying another passion of his - working on vehicles at home. He also loved riding motorcycles and anything that involved going fast. When James was not outside, you could find him playing with his grandchildren and teaching them everything he knew, whether that was teaching his grandsons how to work on vehicles or teaching his granddaughter family recipes.
James was preceded in death by his father, Francis Jones, and his mother, Alice Keurulainen Jones.
Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Denise C. Jones, of Sparta; sons, Leo Jones, of Florida; Wayne (Kim) Jones, of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, and Keith Jones, of Sparta; favorite daughter-in-law, Dawn Jones; brothers, Peter (Brenda) Jones, of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Dennis (Linda) Jones, of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Steven Jones, of Fitchburg, Massachusetts; 10 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In honor of James, a last call will be made over the CB radio, as well as a last ride.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Oak Lawn Funeral Home to assist with funeral expenses.
