McMinnville, Tennessee, resident and White County native James Wesley Sherrell, 81, was born March 12, 1943, and died Jan. 1, 2025, at his residence, following a brief illness.

A veteran of the Tennessee Army National Guard, retired employee of A.O. Smith, and a member of the Baptist Church, he was the son of Johnnie and Ella Flatt Sherrell.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Velma Jackson, and lifelong companion, Mary Jeanette Deason.

Mr. Sherrell is survived by his children, Darron (Carrie) Sherrell, of McMinnville, Shannon Gannon, of McMinnville; grandchildren, Kacie (Kyle) White, Seth (Cydnie) Looper, Ethan Cantrell, Caylie Sherrell (Austin Harris), Wesley Sherrell; great-grandchildren, Kylan, Khloe, Kyson; sister, Rosie (Levon) Maynard, of Sparta; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service was 11 a.m., Jan. 4, 2025, at High Funeral Home Chapel, in McMinnville. Danny Barnes and Fernando Rocha officiated. Full military honors were administered by VFW Post 5064 and American Legion Post 173. Burial followed at Old Zion Cemetery, in White County.

High Funeral Home, in McMinnville, was in charge of arrangements.
