Jerry Estle Austin, 81, of Old Bon Air Community, passed away April 18, 2023, at his residence.

Jerry was born June 1, 1941, in Sparta, to William Estle Austin and Pearl Ethel Wallace Austin.

He retired from Wagner Electric. For 12 years,  Jerry served his community as a county commissioner and was an active member of DeRossett Church of Christ. He was a proud United States Army Veteran who served in Vietnam. As an avid outdoorsman, Jerry enjoying hunting and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rubie Austin; brother-in-law, James Chaffin; and nephew, Steve Boyd.

Surviving family members include his wife of 57, years Linda Faye Chaffin Austin; son, Michael Austin and wife Tina; grandchildren, Japheth Henegar and wife Ally, Bailey Henegar and wife Tori, Eli Henegar and Jessica Burton; great-grandchildren, Nolan Henegar, Ollie Henegar; sister, Dorothy Pendelton; sister-in-law, Elinore Chaffin; and man’s best friend, Buddy.

Funeral service was 1 p.m., April 21, 2023, at Hunter Funeral Home. Roy Whited officiated. Burial, with military honors by the Veterans' Honor Guard, followed in Old Bon Air Cemetery.  

Japheth Henegar, Bailey Henegar, Eli Henegar, Gene Parton, Tony Smith. and Randall Price will served as pallbearers.

Honorary pallbearers were Mark Chaffin, Steve Wilson, Kevin Pendleton, Alaric Boyd, Clifford Holman, Ray Jicha, Jimmy Holman, Dalton Chaffin, Daegan Chaffin, John Ford, and Paul Thiener.
