James Ridley Moss, better known as Jimmy, a resident of the Hickory Valley Community, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 75, on Monday morning, Dec. 29, 2025, while enjoying one of his favorite hobbies - hunting on his farm he loved so much with his special grandson whom he loved dearly.
Jimmy was born July 28, 1950, in Sparta, to Byrd Arnold and Mary Evelyn Greene Moss.
Jimmy had a work career that spanned from Jim Dandy Car Wash to cooking and co-owning the Stone House Restaurant to then working as a mechanic at Wagner until his retirement. Jimmy was an active member of Hickory Valley Baptist Church. In addition to being an avid hunter and golfer, Jimmy possessed a meticulous artistic ability.
Surviving family members left to cherish his memory include his wife of 55 years ,Freda Spivey Moss; son, James Stephen Moss and fiancée Donna West; special grandson, Charlie Walker; sisters, Kaye Barlow and Nancy Jo Moss; brothers, Stephen Arnold Moss and wife Jean, Richard Moss; brother-in-law, Ronnie Spivey and wife Joyce; sisters-in-law, Correne Fougere and Wilma Sparks; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m., Jan. 2, 2026, at Hickory Valley Baptist Church, with burial in Hickory Valley Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 11 a.m., Jan. 2, at the church. Doug Benningfield will officiate.
Charlie Walker, Sam Parker, Tommy Narramore, Roger Haston, Steve Dodson, Jack Keith, and John Sloan will serve as pallbearers.
