JoAnn Kilgore, 73, of Sparta, passed away Aug. 1, 2024, at NHC Healthcare of Sparta, while surrounded by family.

Born Feb. 24, 1951, in Chattanooga, she was the daughter of Clarence Vincent and Betty Lou Kinsey Vincent, both of whom preceded her in death.

JoAnn is remembered for her love of family. She loved her children and grandchildren and dedicated her life to them. She was a hard worker and lived to make others laugh. JoAnn enjoyed sitting on the porch to birdwatch, especially the hummingbirds. She loved to go on road trips with her siblings to the casino. The Slattens often took her to Myrtle Beach, where she frequented her favorite restaurant, Peaches. Above all, JoAnn was a loving mother, sister, nanny, and “Mama Blue Smoke.”

Survivors include her son, Jack Matthew (Becky) White; grandchildren, Matthew, Tyler, A.J., Lexie, Daniel; son, Travis White;

grandchildren, Haley Jo, Thomas, Travis II, Lola, Leah; daughter, Tammy (Kevin) Slatten, of Sparta; grandchild, Amanda Grace; daughter, Brandy (Barry) Broome; grandchildren, Coby, Brittany, Christopher, Chloe; son, Brandon (Kristina) Kilgore; grandchildren, Brenton, Raydon, Jordon, Evelon, Jakzon; several great-grandchildren; siblings, Judy Reed (and special daughter Kathy), Eddie (Karen) Vincent, Rick (Patty) Williams; special aunt, Sandy; dog, Addie Mae; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends.

A celebration of life will be 3 p.m., Aug. 11, 2024, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home. Kevin Slatten will preside, and granddaughter Amanda Grace will perform Amazing Grace. The family will receive friends 2-3 p.m., Aug. 11, at the funeral home.
