Johnny Ray McKendree, 76, of Walling, Tennessee, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at his home in Walling.
He was born on Sunday, November 20, 1949, in Sparta, Tennessee; he was the son of the late Willis Ray (Johnny) and Geraldine McKendree. He was the husband of Phyllis Joan McKendree.
Johnny was a jack of all trades, as he was a welder/owner/operator of McKendree Concrete Construction for 25 years, where he did road work for the state. He also raised black Angus cows and managed rental properties all at the same time.
Riding his Harley, taking out his antique cars, and going camping were his favorite things to do in his free time. He was a member of the Gum Springs Baptist Church for 37 years. No one was ever a stranger to him, and he loved to talk.
Johnny has been sick for the past 10 years, but no matter how bad a day was, if you asked, he'd say he's doing great. He was a very proud and strong man that we will miss very deeply in our lives and in our hearts.
He is preceded in death by his parents: Willis Ray "Johnny" and Gerladine Gracey Gilliam McKendree.
Johnny is survived by his wife of 21 and a half years: Phyllis McKendree; daughters: Regina (Bryan) Wright and Mindy (Casey) Gunter; grandchildren: John and Jack Wright, Mason, Cady, and Sara Gunter; sisters: Linda Dobbs and Peggy Adcock; brother: Jack McKendree; and a host of loving family members and friends.
Pallbearers are Casey Gunter, Jeff Price, Toby Russell, Kenny Farmer, Ronnie J. Hickey, and Billy Phillips.
A service will be held Friday, July 24, 2026, at 12 PM at Oak Lawn Funeral Home with a burial to follow at Oak Lawn Memorial Cemetery. Bo Hendericks will be officiating.
The family will be receiving friends from 10 AM until the time of service on Friday, July 24, 2026, at Oak Lawn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Gum Springs Baptist Church: Building Fund - 5454 Franks Ferry Rd, Walling, TN 38587
